Mario Golf: Family Tour

マリオゴルフ ファミリーツアー

A golf simulation that blends traditional golf mechanics with the characters, humour, and settings of the Mario universe, offering both single‑player progression and multiplayer competition.

Description

Mario Golf: Family Tour, internationally known as Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, extends the Mario Golf concept with a roster of sixteen playable characters, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, and Donkey Kong. Each has with distinct golfing attributes such as shot distance, control, and spin. Courses range from realistic fairways to fantastical environments filled with Mario‑themed obstacles like warp pipes, Chain Chomps, and Piranha Plants, which alter strategy and inject unpredictability into play.

The game modes extend beyond standard stroke and match play. Ring Attack challenges players to pass shots through rings while staying under par, while Coin Shoot requires collecting coins scattered across the course. Multiplayer supports up to four players, encouraging competitive and party‑style play. The game notably supports connectivity with the Game Boy Advance title Mario Golf: Advance Tour, using the GameCube–GBA link cable, where players can transfer characters and data between the two games, expanding progression and customisation.

Having initially missed the N64 original, I appreciated the general style and play the game offered. A colourful presentation, accessible mechanics, and variety of courses are the cornerstone of this series. Family Tour balanced simulation depth with Mario‑style charm, and reinforcing Camelot’s reputation for sports spin‑offs alongside the Mario Tennis series.
