Yu-Gi-Oh Falsebound Kingdom

ゆうおう フォルスバウンドキングダム ~きょこうざされたおうこく

A strategy‑driven spin‑off of the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! franchise, combining real‑time tactics and role‑playing elements rather than traditional card duelling.

Description

Yu‑Gi‑Oh! Falsebound Kingdom was a distinctive departure from the series’ usual card‑based mechanics. Instead of duels, the game structures play around commanding teams of monsters in real‑time strategy battles. Players move units across maps, capture enemy bases, and engage in encounters where monsters fight using turn‑based commands within timed sequences.

The game unfolds across three campaigns, each following a different set of characters from the Yu‑Gi‑Oh! universe. Yugi Mutou and Seto Kaiba lead separate storylines, while a third campaign introduces Joey Wheeler, offering varied perspectives on the overarching conflict. Progression is tied to recruiting and levelling monsters, equipping them with items, and strategically deploying them across battlefields. Visually, the title presents stylised 3D models of familiar monsters, with environments designed to evoke tactical maps rather than duelling arenas. The emphasis on commanding squads rather than individual cards situates the game closer to a hybrid of role‑playing and strategy genres.

The game had the novelty of Yu‑Gi‑Oh! characters in a different format, but the departure from the franchise’s core card mechanics and the uneven pacing of battles led to a limited appeal. With some fandom they simply hate change. Pity, because this is more my vibe than cards.
