Second generation SNES Pro Action Replay hardware with software revision 2.0P.
Description
Second generation Pro Action Replay for the Super Nintendo. The MK2 model included improved memory editing and training, and had significantly better overriding of regional lockouts. This unit has software revision 2.0P. Software revisions were usually minor and likely stability improvements. However, version 2.x MK2 models included a significant, albeit hidden feature. The entire manual of known cheat codes was now accessible by an inbuilt library.
Action Replay devices let players directly manipulate a game’s data in real time, effectively bending the rules of how it was meant to be played. Plugged into a console between the system and the game, they could freeze the action, search the system’s memory for specific values (like health, ammo, or currency), and then alter those values to grant infinite resources, unlock hidden levels, or enable invincibility. Many models also bypassed region locks, loaded import or homebrew software, and allowed “save anywhere” functionality in games that didn’t normally permit it. In practice, they were both a cheat tool for casual players and a powerful probe for hobbyists and hackers to uncover unused content, debug features, and secrets buried in games’ code.
