Description

The Vehicle Kit, formally titled Nintendo Labo: Toy‑Con 03 Vehicle Kit, was the third entry in the Labo line following the Variety Kit and Robot Kit. It was sold as a stand‑alone package, requiring only the Nintendo Switch console and Joy‑Con controllers to function. The kit included pre‑cut cardboard sheets, reflective stickers, string, grommets, and other assembly materials, along with a dedicated game card containing the build instructions, mini‑games, and the Toy‑Con Garage programming environment.

The principal Toy‑Con are the Car, Submarine, and Plane, each operated by inserting a removable “Key” housing a Joy‑Con. A separate cardboard Pedal was also constructed to provide acceleration input, primarily for the Car but usable across vehicles. Swapping the Key between vehicles instantly shifted the in‑game mode, allowing seamless transitions between driving, diving, and flying. The bundled software presented a large exploratory environment where players could race, battle, and uncover secrets using the different vehicles. Each Toy‑Con had unique mechanics: the Car could perform wheelies and use extendable punching arms in combat; the Submarine deployed a grappling hook; and the Plane executed aerial manoeuvres.

As with other Labo releases, the Vehicle Kit emphasised the “Make, Play, Discover” ethos. It contained a more substantial software component than earlier kits, with longer play value and more varied mechanics. This included discovery modules explaining how the Joy‑Con’s sensors such as the infrared motion camera and gyroscope interacted with the cardboard mechanisms. It also demonstrated Nintendo’s continued experimentation with hybrid physical‑digital play, echoing earlier peripherals such as the Wii Wheel or Wii Balance Board.It was sold as a single SKU, with no major regional content variations beyond packaging language.
