Ghost House
ゴーストハウスAn action‑platformer loosely based on Sega’s 1982 arcade game Monster Bash, in which young vampire hunter Mick must explore a haunted mansion, find keys, and defeat five vampires per stage. Cartridge version. Recorded as purchased but uncertain if in the collection.
Description
Ghost House casts you as Mick, a pointy‑eared adventurer seeking his family’s stolen jewels inside a sprawling, trap‑filled mansion. Each level tasks you with locating hidden keys that are dropped by random enemies to unlock coffins containing “Draculas.” These vampires alternate between bat and humanoid forms, and can only be damaged in their human state.
Mick starts with only his fists but can acquire a short‑lived sword by triggering certain traps, such as leaping onto a flying blade launched from a fireplace. The mansion environment is interactive: touching ceiling lights freezes enemies and some portraits act as portals to other rooms. Enemies include bats, mummies, fire‑breathing foes, and ghosts, all of which drain Mick’s energy on contact. Health can be restored by collecting jewels or defeating a vampire. Players have three lives, with extra lives awarded at 50,000 and 150,000 points.
Praised at the time for its colourful, cartoon‑like graphics and catchy (if repetitive) music, Ghost House had high difficulty and occasional collision quirks. It became a memorable early Master System title, especially in PAL regions. In Brazil TecToy re‑released it as Chapolim x Dracula: Um Duelo Assustador, replacing Mick with the Mexican comedy hero El Chapulín Colorado. The game was in the initial set of Master System that were released on the Sega Card format before being later re-released on cartridge.
