Resident Evil

バイオハザード

The break through survival horror game developed by Capcom originally released for the PlayStation, ported by Nextech in collaboration with Sega with exclusive content and a faithful recreation.

Description

Resident Evil (known as Bio Hazard in Japan) follows the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team: Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, and Albert Wesker, as they investigate the disappearance of their comrades near Raccoon City. Forced to take shelter in the Spencer Mansion, the team discovers that the estate is infested with zombies and bio‑engineered monsters created by the Umbrella Corporation. The narrative unfolds through cutscenes, in‑game documents, and branching character perspectives, with Jill and Chris offering different difficulty balances and supporting cast members.

Gameplay retains the fixed camera angles and pre‑rendered backgrounds of the PlayStation original, with players navigating the mansion, solving puzzles, and managing scarce resources such as ammunition, herbs, and ink ribbons. The Saturn version introduced exclusive content, including a new “Battle Game” mode (a timed gauntlet of enemy encounters), redesigned enemy models, and an additional creature the “Tick” that was not present in the PlayStation release.

The tone is deliberately tense and claustrophobic, blending gothic horror with modern bio‑terror themes. Limited resources and deliberate “tank” controls heighten vulnerability, while the soundtrack and sound design reinforce the sense of dread. The Saturn port faithfully captured the PlayStation experience while adding unique extras. It had slightly rougher character models and slower performance, but the additional content made it a standout late‑generation release. So despite being less polished than the PlayStation original, it still remains an interesting as the first console port of Resident Evil.
