A definitive domestic edition of the landmark cinematic role playing experience that integrates complex character histories with a grand narrative of environmental and corporate conflict. It expands on the original release through the inclusion of revised content and bonus data that was refined through the development of the international release. Contains three game discs: SLPS-01057, SLPS-01058, SLPS-01057, and a bonus disc SLPS-01060.

Description

Final Fantasy VII International is a refined version of the massively popular RPG that became one of the flagship entries on the PlayStation. The story follows Cloud, a mercenary with a fractured past who joins an eco terrorist group to confront a global megacorporation draining the vital energy of the planet. This journey evolves into a pursuit of a legendary figure whose ambitions threaten the existence of all living beings. Themes of identity, memory, and the impact of industrialisation on nature are explored through a world that blends industrial aesthetics with ancient magic. It functions as a comprehensive update that incorporates additional character details and narrative sequences to deepen the player’s understanding of the backstory.

Players navigate a world consisting of pre-rendered environments and polygonal character models while managing the customisation of abilities through a system of specialised orbs. This version introduces significant mechanical refinements such as the addition of optional superbosses known as the Emerald and Ruby Weapons and the transformation of the Diamond Weapon into a playable combat encounter. Navigation is assisted by the inclusion of visual markers for entrances and ladders which were not present in the initial release. A defining feature of this edition is the inclusion of a fourth bonus disc titled the Perfect Guide which provides an extensive database of game assets, maps, and enemy statistics. It also features expanded cutscenes that provide greater context for the history of the protagonist and his companions.

The re-release of FFVII was praised for its massive volume of content and the technical improvements made to the battle animations. The supplementary data disc made it a mandatory purchase for dedicated followers of the series. Although it lacked some of the refinements of the PC version, it is the definitive PlayStation version of the first 3D Final Fantasy, setting the direction for the series’ future. The title remains a celebrated example of the role playing genre for its depth of lore, influential presentation, and cultural impact.
