A racing experience that emphasises realism and social competition, combining detailed tracks with online connectivity, and exploring the tension between precision driving and communal rivalry.
Description
Driveclub is a visually striking, socially driven racing game that positioned itself as a more accessible, arcade-leaning alternative to the Gran Turismo series. Released at the PS4 launch, around the same time Gran Turismo 6 on PS3, some critics and players speculated that this overlap, given GT’s entrenched fanbase, may have diluted Driveclub‘s impact despite it targeting a different player with its tone and being on a newer console.
The game earned praise for its dynamic weather, strong sense of speed, and refined post-launch support. Unfortunately it experienced a troubled rollout, server instability, and ultimately the shutdown of its online features in 2020 left it as a striking but short-lived experience that has been abandoned. A PlayStation VR version also made an appearance.
