Description

Knack II continues the story of the titular creature, a being formed from ancient relics who can grow and shrink at will. The game expands his moveset with a wider range of punches, kicks, grabs, and special abilities tied to elemental forms such as ice, iron, and stealth. Levels combine straightforward combat arenas with light puzzles and traversal sequences, often requiring players to manipulate Knack’s shifting size to progress. A skill tree system allows gradual upgrades, while hidden relics and crystal parts scattered through stages encourage exploration.

The adventure is structured around a mix of solo and cooperative play. A second player can drop in or out at any time, controlling a duplicate Knack and sharing in combat and puzzle solving. This couch co‑op element was a deliberate attempt to make the game more accessible to families, contrasting with the more solitary feel of the original. The narrative, involving ancient goblin technology and a looming threat from the past, serves mainly as a backdrop for varied environments and set‑piece battles.

Despite Knack often not being taken seriously we had frequently enjoyed its co-op mode. Some even joked why there was a sequel, but the game was also a bit of a showcase for the PS4 at a technical level. Knack II improved its combat depth, colourful presentation, and the addition of cooperative play, which gave it a broader appeal. It added the variety of abilities, the smoother pacing, and the accessibility of its design. At the same time, its story and characters were considered thin, and its structure remained conventional compared to more ambitious action‑platformers. Even so, it stood as a notable refinement, showing how iteration could turn a once‑maligned concept into a more confident and enjoyable experience.
