Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown introduces a new protagonist, Sargon, a young warrior of the Immortals, who journeys to the cursed city of Mount Qaf to rescue the kidnapped Prince Ghassan. The story unfolds across interconnected biomes filled with puzzles, traps, and mythological enemies, with themes of loyalty, corruption, and destiny woven into the progression.

The gameplay centres on acrobatic traversal and combat. Sargon wields dual blades and can perform parries to charge his Athra Gauge, unlocking powerful abilities. His time‑based powers include Rush of the Simurgh, which lets him dash forward through time, and Shadow of the Simurgh, which creates a temporary checkpoint he can instantly return to. Players can also equip talismans to alter abilities, and collect Time Crystals to upgrade weapons. Exploration is designed around returning to earlier areas with new powers to unlock hidden paths, a hallmark of the Metroidvania structure.

The game received strong reviews, praised for its fluid combat, inventive platforming, and stylish presentation. Its innovative quality‑of‑life features, such as the Eye of the Wanderer, which allows players to pin screenshots to the map as reminders of puzzles or secrets. It should have been a successful revival of the series, though sales fell short of expectations despite critical acclaim. The sequel was unfortunately cancelled and the development team disbanded.
