Description
The Battery Pack is a removable component of the PSP. The original “PSP‑1000” model came with the PSP‑110 battery pack, a 3.6V 1800 mAh lithium‑ion cell. Later revisions of the console used slimmer batteries: the PSP‑S110 (1200mAh) for the PSP‑2000 and PSP‑3000, which reduced bulk but also shortened playtime. Sony also released the PSP‑280, a higher‑capacity 2200 mAh pack compatible with the PSP‑1000, offering extended battery life for players who wanted longer sessions.
The battery pack was central to the PSP’s portability. It could be removed and replaced easily, allowing users to carry spares or upgrade to higher‑capacity versions. Charging was handled through the PSP’s AC adapter, and the battery pack also enabled features like sleep mode, which preserved game states without draining power completely. Players valued the ability to swap batteries, especially given the PSP’s reputation for relatively short play sessions compared to Nintendo’s handhelds. Over time, third‑party manufacturers produced compatible packs with capacities ranging from 1200mAh to 3600mAh, some of which were bulkier but extended runtime significantly. Today, original Sony packs are increasingly less common, while aftermarket replacements remain widely available for those maintaining or restoring PSP consoles.
