CDDA (Redbook) Audio

Compact Disc Digital Audio (CD-DA), conforming to the “Redbook” standard, delivers uncompressed 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereophonic sound. Introduced via fourth-generation peripherals like the PC Engine CD-ROM² and Sega Mega-CD, it bypassed internal synthesis hardware to stream PCM audio directly to a converter. This allowed for studio-quality, fully orchestrated soundtracks, though it often restricted optical laser movement during gameplay. These are playable on a regular CD player!
