Controller S (Halo Black)

Description

The Controller S (Halo Black), officially known as the Black Halo S Controller (or sometimes the Special Limited Edition Black Halo Controller S) was released exclusively in the Australian market. While the shell appears to be a standard black unit, it is differentiated by the factory-fitted Black Halo Jewel in the centre. That jewel was almost exclusively paired with translucent green or blue shells in other parts of the world.

This controller was never sold individually at retail; instead, it was created specifically for the Australian “Ultimate Entertainment Pack.” This holiday bundle was Microsoft’s major push for the 2004 season in Australia, packaged in a large, distinctive box that included a standard black console, the Black Halo S controller, and two hit games: Halo: Combat Evolved and Top Spin (with some later versions swapping in Project Gotham Racing 2). Because it was a “bundle-only” item released just a year before the Xbox 360 launched, it had a relatively short production run, with estimates suggesting as few as 5,000 units were produced for the local market.
