Starlink: Battle for Atlas (Starter Pack)

An open‑world space action game where players explore planets, customise modular starships, and battle the Forgotten Legion across the Atlas system.

Description

Starlink: Battle for Atlas (Starter Pack) is the launch bundle for Ubisoft’s toys‑to‑life space action game. The Starter Pack includes the base game along with physical starship, pilot, and weapon figures that can be mounted onto a controller mount, instantly appearing in the game world. This system allows players to swap parts in real time, customising their ship’s loadout during play. The game was launched simultaneously across all platforms.

The game itself centres on open‑world space exploration and combat across the Atlas star system. Players command modular starships, engaging in dogfights, planetary exploration, and missions against the Forgotten Legion. The Starter Pack provides the essential components to begin play: one starship, one pilot, and a pair of weapons, with additional figures sold separately to expand options.

The Xbox version mirrors the PlayStation 4 Starter Pack with the standard set of figures and digital items. The Switch version stood out because it included Fox McCloud and the Arwing from Star Fox. It was one of the few toys‑to‑life games available on Xbox One at the time, competing in a market where franchises like Skylanders and Disney Infinity had already faded. The Xbox Starter Pack gave players access to the same expansive Atlas star system, modular ship building, and cooperative play as other platforms, but without additional crossover characters.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas was praised for its colourful presentation, accessible combat, and the novelty of modular toys‑to‑life integration. However, the game design was easily repetitive and relied on purchasing extra figures to unlock content. Offline micro-transactions! This was the gateway into Ubisoft’s experiment with toys‑to‑life, which like others before it could never really gain a major market outside of Nintendo’s more optional yet hardware integrated approach with amiibo.
