The Nintendo 3DS is an eighth generation handheld game console developed by Nintendo. It was released globally beginning in early 2011 and featured stereoscopic 3D visuals without the need for special glasses. The system supported backward compatibility with Nintendo DS games and introduced features like StreetPass and SpotPass. The 3DS competed with Sony’s PlayStation Vita and served as the successor to the Nintendo DS. It stands as Nintendo’s last dedicated portable since the move to a combined portable and home console with the Switch.
