Fossil Fighters: Frontier
カセキホリダー ムゲンギアA monster‑collecting role‑playing game that shifts its focus from traditional excavation and turn‑based duels to vehicular exploration and team‑based battles, reimagining its series formula in a more open format.
Description
Fossil Fighters: Frontier introduces players to the role of a young warden who travels across diverse landscapes in a vehicle known as the Bone Buggy. Unlike its predecessors, where fossil excavation was a slower, more meticulous process, this entry emphasises driving through dig sites, scanning for remains, and cleaning fossils directly in the field. Revived creatures, called Vivosaurs, form the backbone of the adventure, and the player can battle alongside two computer‑controlled allies, creating three‑on‑three encounters that differ from the one‑on‑one or three‑versus‑three duels of earlier titles. The game also introduces regional variants of Vivosaurs, new elemental interactions, and a support system that replaces the older mechanics of buffs and status effects.
The game situates the player within a mobile base community, where exploration, teamwork, and environmental stewardship are recurring themes. Missions often involve protecting ecosystems from rogue Vivosaurs or human interference, while uncovering mysteries tied to the origins of these prehistoric creatures. The story leans into camaraderie, with “Paleo Pals” serving as recurring partners who provide both narrative support and mechanical assistance in battle. Compared to the more linear structure of the first two Fossil Fighters games, Frontier’s design reflects a broader industry trend toward open‑world exploration, echoing elements seen in titles like Pokémon X and Y or Monster Hunter, where traversal and discovery are as central as combat.
Younger players and series newcomers often appreciate the colourful presentation, accessible systems, and the novelty of driving through expansive dig sites but long‑time fans will likely view the changes as a departure from the careful excavation and strategic battling that defined the earlier games. It was the final mainline entry in its series.
