A Nintendo DS edutainment title that expands on the original Brain Training, offering new puzzles, daily exercises, and Sudoku to help players “train” their mental agility and measure their “brain age.”
Description
More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? is a Nintendo DS edutainment title released as the sequel to the original Brain Training. Known in North America as Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day!, it was developed and published by Nintendo in collaboration with neuroscientist Dr. Ryuta Kawashima. The game continues the concept of daily mental exercises designed to stimulate different areas of the brain, presented through short, accessible challenges that can be played in just a few minutes each day.
Players hold the DS sideways like a book and begin with a Brain Age Check, a series of quick tests that estimate their “brain age” based on speed and accuracy. The aim is to lower this score over time through consistent practice. The sequel introduces a wider variety of exercises than its predecessor, including musical memory, symbol matching, and word recall, alongside returning favourites such as arithmetic drills and reading aloud. A full Sudoku mode is also included, offering hundreds of puzzles independent of the main training loop.
The design encourages daily engagement by recording progress on a calendar and unlocking new exercises gradually. It also supports quick play sessions for casual use or multiplayer challenges, making it accessible to a broad audience. While the handwriting and voice recognition systems occasionally misinterpret input, the game’s simplicity and charm helped it achieve enormous commercial success, selling over fourteen million copies worldwide.
The full formal original title is Tōhoku Daigaku Mirai Kagaku Gijutsu Kyōdō Kenkyū Sentā Kawashima Ryūta Kyōju Kanshū Motto Nō o Kitaeru Otona no DS Training (Supervised by Professor Ryūta Kawashima, Tohoku University Future Science and Technology Joint Research Center: More Adult DS Training to Strengthen the Brain) is usually shortened for brevity.
