Finding Nemo

ファインディング・ニモ

A film-based underwater action-adventure combining side-scrolling swimming, forward-moving chase sequences, puzzles, minigames, and collectible objectives.

Description

Finding Nemo closely follows the Disney and Pixar film, alternating between Nemo’s experiences inside an aquarium and Marlin and Dory’s journey across the ocean to rescue him. This localised version includes extracts from the Japanese version of the film to connect major stages and recreate scenes including the jellyfish field, sunken submarine, East Australian Current, whale encounter, and fishing-net rescue.

Players control Nemo, Marlin, and Dory through 18 stages that alternate between side-view exploration and faster sequences viewed from behind the character. Objectives include following other fish, escaping predators, navigating mines and jellyfish, collecting bubbles and rings, solving simple environmental puzzles, and completing timed races. Most stages contain optional tasks that award starfish, which unlock bonus levels when enough have been collected. The changing characters and minigames provide variety, although a lot of the gameplay is based on collecting large numbers of objects or repeating sections until their routes have been memorised.

The colourful environments, recognisable locations, film clips, and broadly faithful retelling made it appealing to younger fans of the film. Reception was otherwise mixed, with criticism directed at loose swimming controls, inconsistent collision detection, repetitive collection requirements, and sudden difficulty increases during chase and obstacle stages. Some sections are surprisingly frustrating for the intended younger audience, particularly when imprecise movement must be combined with lengthy stages and limited checkpoints. The Japanese GameCube edition is fundamentally a localised version of the original western version, without major exclusive content.
