Description
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is the fourth main entry in Nintendo’s iconic kart racing series and the first to be fully 3D. It brought a fresh twist to the franchise by allowing two characters to ride in the same kart, with one driving and the other handling items. Players could swap roles at any time, opening up new strategies for both single-player and multiplayer races. Gameplay otherwise remained what made the series so popular, with minor refinements.
The GameCube probably presented the largest generational jump that Nintendo will ever had, and the Mario kart franchise absolutely capitalised on this. It’s not just the vastly approved graphics, AI, and general presentation. The use of old GameCube features was welcome even if only benefiting a minority between progressive scan graphics and LAN play over multiple consoles and screens. We really made the most of it at the time. Some might still argue this was the pinnacle of the series. Although I appreciate the direction the series has taken I do believe this is absolutely is underrated.
