The Romancing SaGa series is a sub‑series within Square Enix’s long‑running SaGa franchise, known for its non‑linear storytelling, multiple protagonists, and unconventional progression systems. Debuting on the Super Famicom in the early 1990s, the three original Romancing SaGa titles (1992–1995) let players choose from several main characters — each with unique starting points and storylines — and explore a shared fantasy world in almost any order.

Romancing SaGa 3 returns to a multi-protagonist format, but with greater emphasis on character interplay and world cohesion. The Rise of Morastrum serves as a unifying backdrop, while each lead navigates personal and global stakes through loosely connected quests.
