A vibrant, ink-splattered sequel that refines Nintendo’s multiplayer shooter with new weapons, modes, and a deeper single-player experience.
Description
Splatoon 2 builds on the stylish chaos of its predecessor, pitting teams of Inklings (and later Octolings) against each other in turf wars where victory depends on painting the battlefield with your team’s ink. The game introduces new gear, maps, and weapon classes while maintaining the core loop of fast-paced, territory-based combat. Ranked Battles return with modes like Splat Zones, Tower Control, Rainmaker, and the new Clam Blitz.
The single-player campaign casts players as Agent 4, battling the Octarian menace across puzzle-like stages that double as training grounds for mastering weapons and movement. The Octo Expansion DLC added a darker, more narrative-driven experience starring Agent 8, an amnesiac Octoling navigating a surreal underground facility. With over 80 missions and branching paths, it deepens the lore and challenges players with inventive mechanics and cryptic storytelling.
Splatoon 2 embraced a live-service model with regular updates, rotating maps, and themed community-wide events where players chose sides (e.g., ketchup vs. mayo) and battled for supremacy. These events, along with Miiverse-style art sharing and gear customization, fostered a vibrant online culture, which continued through to its successor being released.
