GamePad Cradle

Description

The GamePad Cradle was a small accessory bundled with the premium Wii U set. It was designed as a charging dock for the Wii U GamePad, allowing players to rest the controller upright while its rechargeable battery topped up.
The cradle is a compact black plastic stand with a recessed slot that matches the GamePad’s curved underside. The AC adapter plugs into the back of the cradle, so when the GamePad is placed on it, the contacts align and charging begins automatically. Nintendo also included a separate stand (distinct from the cradle) in the premium set, which was meant for display or play positioning but did not charge. Although the cradle could undertake the same role it is predominantly for keeping the GamePad powered between sessions.
The cradle was not included with the basic Wii U set, which shipped only with the console, GamePad, and essential cables. This made the premium bundle more attractive, as it provided both the charging cradle and the stand. Over time, Nintendo also sold the cradle separately, often paired with the stand, under official accessory listings.
