Power Memory: External Backup RAM (Tamagotchi Park)

Description

The Power Memory expanded the rather limited internal memory and was not volatile. There were two retail Japanese versions, HSS-0111 and HSS-0138. This specific unit was included with the game Sega Saturn de hakken!! Tamagotchi Park. The game shipped with this special cartridge that was required for saving progress. It is functionally a standard Power Memory cartridge but comes preloaded with a save file. If the preloaded save file was erased, the cartridge becomes unusable for this the game, although it will still work with other Saturn games.

Obviously this situation has leads to a few problems, with people deleting the file by accident. In the years after the title sold Bandai offered a service to restore the file onto the cartridge. Today with modern tools, the file has been dumped and it should be quite easy for one to restore themselves if necessary. Nonetheless, an unusual situation that seems like it could have been entirely avoidable if the file could have been restored off the game’s disc if missing or corrupted.
