Virtualised Surround

Virtualised surround sound employs complex digital signal processing (DSP), mostly commonly HRTF algorithms, to simulate a multi-channel 3D acoustic environment through a standard two-speaker or headphone setup. By applying micro-delays and frequency shaping to a stereo signal, the algorithm tricks human auditory perception into perceiving directional audio. This tag covers software-driven solutions as well as modern spatial APIs, enabling positional tracking without discrete speaker arrays.
