A specialised electronic database toy released to accompany the Digimon Adventure 02 anime series. Unlike the virtual pets, it was designed as a “handheld computer” that could store over 300 Digimon profiles and serve as a central hub for your collection.
Description
The Digimon Terminal, known as D-Terminal in the west, was released to coincide with the peak of the Digimon Adventure 02 anime. In Japan, it was marketed not just as an encyclopedia, but as a “Digimon Management Tool.” Its primary function was to allow players to store Digimon data and, most importantly, provide the Digimental (Armour) data required to evolve the partner Digimon found in the D-3 (Digivice) series. The unit’s game modes features a “Battle Game” where you can select a Digimon from your saved database to fight against the computer. In Japan, winning these battles often unlocked “secret” passwords that could be entered to reveal rare Digimon profiles.
It contains profiles for over 300 Digimon containing technical details like “Attribute” and “Field” (Nature Spirits, Nightmare Soldiers, etc.) that were more integral to the Japanese meta-game. The Japanese version uses the original naming conventions rather than the Americanised anime names. The D-Terminal is essential for players of the Japanese D-3. By linking via the A-Com port, the D-Terminal can transfer “Digimental” data to the D-3, unlocking Armor Digivolutions like Flamedramon or Magnamon. The system more broadly is at the centre of the Digimon Link System, Bandai’s ecosystem of Digimon products across multiple platforms. Besides the A-Com port, the system also can link directly to the WonderSwan games through the console’s link cable. These connections allowed the system to indirectly connect to PlayStation Digimon titles through the Sony PocketStation and WonderWave.
