Description
Biohazard 0 Trial Edition is a demo disc and promotional preview of Biohazard 0 (Resident Evil 0). It was distributed primarily to those who pre‑ordered the GameCube remake of Biohazard and is notable for containing early builds, altered item placements, and unused assets not present in the final game.
It is playable demo, allowing players to experience the opening section aboard the Ecliptic Express train. Gameplay runs from the start of the game up until just before the giant scorpion boss fight, giving a taste of the new partner‑zapping system that let players switch between Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen. This mechanic was one of the title’s key innovations, and the trial disc was the first opportunity for players to test it.
Distribution was tied to pre‑orders of the GameCube remake of Resident Evil (2002), though some copies were also bundled with promotional material such as a Hong Kong comic. Two packaging variations exist: some discs came in standard jewel cases, while others were issued in thinner cases. These two copies are the latter.
The Trial Edition is particularly interesting because it contains differences from the final release. Certain items appear in altered locations, and the game’s data includes unused or placeholder assets, such as unfinished 3D models and items that were cut before the retail version shipped. These remnants provide insight into Capcom’s development process and the adjustments made in the months leading up to release. From a preservation standpoint, it provides a snapshot of the game in transition.
