Destructive
デストラクティブA futuristic light‑gun shooter built around the Super Scope peripheral, where the player takes on waves of rogue machines in a city under siege.
Description
Destructive, originally released in the US as Bazooka Blitzkrieg, is a Japanese developed light gun game. It was one of the few titles designed specifically for Nintendo’s Super Scope, the bazooka‑shaped light gun accessory. The premise is straightforward: a mega‑corporation’s central computer malfunctions, sending its robotic army into rebellion. Players, cast as a commando, must blast through successive stages of mechanical enemies, from street patrols to airborne drones, before confronting the rogue mainframe itself. The game includes a “Boot Camp” tutorial stage to teach players how to handle the Super Scope, followed by a series of linear missions that mix on‑foot shootouts with sequences like hover‑bike chases.
Retrospectively, Destructive was part of a small wave of Super Scope software, alongside titles like Battle Clash and X‑Zone, all of which tried to justify the peripheral’s existence with arcade‑style shooting. Compared to Sega’s Menacer or Konami’s Justifier, the Super Scope library was limited. Destructive stood out for its sci‑fi setting and Bandai’s involvement rather than Nintendo’s. Reception was mixed: while some players enjoyed the novelty of blasting robots with a bazooka‑shaped controller, others found the gameplay repetitive and the accessory cumbersome.
