Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes is a 2019 spin‑off entry in Grasshopper Manufacture’s cult action series, directed by Goichi “Suda51” Suda and first released for the Nintendo Switch. The story picks up seven years after No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. Travis Touchdown, now living in a trailer in the American South, is confronted by Badman, the father of Bad Girl (a boss from the first game), who seeks revenge. Their fight is interrupted when both are sucked into the Death Drive Mk II, a mysterious, cursed video game console. To escape, they must battle through its library of games, each one a self‑contained world with its own style, enemies, and “bugs” to exterminate.

Gameplay shifts the series into a top‑down hack‑and‑slash format, with cooperative play available for Travis and Badman. Combat retains the beam katana, wrestling moves, and over‑the‑top finishers of the mainline titles, but adds Skill Chips (named after Gundam models) that grant special attacks such as energy blasts or orbital lasers. Each “game world” introduces new mechanics and visual styles, riffing on genres from platformers to RPGs, and the presentation is filled with meta‑humour, indie game cameos, and fourth‑wall breaks.

While part of the No More Heroes franchise, Suda positioned it as a side story or fresh start rather than a numbered sequel. It received mixed reviews: praised for its eccentric narrative, humour, and experimental style, but criticised for repetitive combat. Finally, it set the stage for No More Heroes III, announced shortly after its release. The game was later ported to PlayStation 4 and Windows.
