6 Player Adapter

マルチターミナル6

The Saturn’s multitap enabled 6 controllers to be plugged through a single port, with some games requiring two of these for 8+ players. It gave the system one of the strongest multiplayer line‑ups of its generation.

Description

The Sega Saturn 6 Player Adapter is an official multitap accessory that expanded one of the Saturn’s two controller ports into six inputs, allowing up to six controllers to be connected to a single port. With two adapters in use simultaneously, the Saturn could technically register up to twelve controllers, though most software capped support at 8 or 10 players.

The adapter was designed in the same colour plastic as the original Saturn for each region, with a short lead that plugged into the console’s controller port and six numbered controller sockets on the front. It was compatible with both the original oval‑button Saturn and the later round‑button revision.

The multitap was supported by a wide range of Saturn titles, particularly party and sports games. Notable examples include:

  • Saturn Bomberman (up to 10 players with two multitaps)
  • Street Racer Extra (up to 8 players with two multitaps)
  • Guardian Heroes (6‑player Versus mode)
  • Fire Pro Wrestling S: 6 Men Scramble (6 wrestlers simultaneously)
  • NBA Jam Extreme, Virtua NBA, and other Sega Sports titles

The Saturn’s multitap gave the system one of the strongest multiplayer line‑ups of its generation, rivalled only by the Nintendo 64’s built‑in four ports. While not every game supported it, the accessory became essential for party titles like Saturn Bomberman, which remains one of the best multiplayer experiences of the 32‑bit era.
