Poy Poy (known as Poitter’s Point in Japan) is a chaotic, party-action game that served as one of the premier titles for the PlayStation Multitap following its European launch in 1997. Developed by Konami, it eschewed traditional platforming or fighting tropes in favour of a frantic “throw-and-dodge” arena battle system, where four players (or AI) compete to be the last one standing. The atmosphere is defined by its bright, blocky 3D aesthetic and a quirky, high-energy soundtrack that perfectly captures the “competitive playground” vibe of the mid-90s. The PAL version is particularly noted for its local impact, becoming a staple of European social gaming, often found alongside titles like Micro Machines V3 as a essential local multiplayer experience.
The game is centred on a tournament where contestants use specialised “Psychic Gloves” to compete for glory across various hazard-filled environments. This allows for a diverse range of play styles, as each glove—such as the Power, Hurricane, or Thunder variants—grants unique offensive and defensive capabilities.
