LAN Cable

The PlayStation 3 was originally previewed with multiple gigabit ethernet ports. Although it only ended up with a single port, the premium 60 GB launch model was supplied with an otherwise generic ethernet cable.

Description

When Sony launched the PlayStation 3 in Japan on 11 November 2006, the premium 60 GB model was bundled with a set of accessories that went beyond the console itself. Unlike the later international packages, the Japanese launch edition included a LAN cable in the box.
This was a standard Category 5e Ethernet cable, designed to connect the PS3 directly to a broadband modem or router for online play and system updates. It was relatively short and finished in black, matching the utilitarian style of Sony’s bundled cords at the time. The inclusion reflected Sony’s emphasis on online connectivity from day one, particularly for features like the PlayStation Network, firmware updates, and multiplayer gaming.
Outside Japan, most PS3 models did not ship with a LAN cable, as Sony assumed players would either use their own or rely on the console’s built‑in Wi‑Fi (which was present in the 60 GB model).
