Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

マーベル VS. カプコン:インフィニット

A crossover fighting game built around tag team combat and cinematic presentation. The game was released as the sixth major entry in the Marvel vs. Capcom series, and a divisive chapter within the series.

Description

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite brings together characters from Marvel Comics and Capcom’s franchises in two‑on‑two battles. The story mode presents a merged universe where heroes and villains unite against Ultron Sigma, blending comic book and video game worlds into a single storyline. The presentation emphasises cinematic cutscenes, colourful arenas, and exaggerated special moves that highlight the crossover theme.

Gameplay uses a simplified tag system compared with earlier entries, allowing players to switch between two fighters at any time. The Infinity Stones mechanic adds strategic variation, granting unique abilities such as time manipulation or power boosts. The roster includes figures like Iron Man, Captain America, Ryu, and Chun‑Li, with downloadable content expanding the selection. The game is closely related to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 but shifts to two‑on‑two combat rather than three‑on‑three, and it is often compared with other contemporary fighters such as Street Fighter V for its mechanics and presentation.

The game has an accessible combat system and smooth online play, but its limited roster, visual style, and story mode has been divisive. The reduction to two‑on‑two battles changed the pace of matches, making them faster but less complex than earlier series entries. Retrospectively this chapter of the series is recognised for its Infinity Stones system but debated for its roster choices and presentation. It is a fighting game that attempted to streamline mechanics while maintaining the spectacle of Marvel and Capcom characters clashing.
