God of War
A cinematic action-adventure that follows former Greek god Kratos and his young son Atreus on a perilous journey through the Norse realms to fulfill a deeply personal promise
Description
Set years after the events of the original trilogy, God of War reimagines the series in a world steeped in Norse mythology, trading the bombastic vengeance of Kratos’ past for a more intimate, character-driven tale. Following the death of his second wife, Faye, Kratos and Atreus set out to scatter her ashes from the highest peak in the Nine Realms. Along the way, Kratos struggles to guide his son without revealing the truth of his divine heritage, while Atreus grapples with his own identity. Their journey brings them into conflict with gods, monsters, and the harsh wilderness of Midgard, forcing both father and son to confront their flaws and grow together.
Gameplay shifts from the fixed-camera hack-and-slash of earlier entries to an over-the-shoulder perspective, emphasizing precision combat with the Leviathan Axe, puzzle-solving, and exploration. Atreus actively assists in battle, adding tactical depth and emotional resonance to encounters. Praised for its storytelling, world design, and the evolving relationship between its protagonists, God of War revitalised the franchise. This game earned widespread critical acclaim, multiple Game of the Year awards, and a place among the most celebrated games of its generation.
