Assassin’s Creed Chronicles
A spin‑off trilogy in the Assassin’s Creed series that reimagines the franchise’s stealth and parkour gameplay in a side‑scrolling format, set across three distinct historical settings with unique protagonists.
Description
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles presents a stylistic departure from the mainline entries, adopting a 2.5D perspective that emphasises stealth, agility, and precision. The trilogy is divided into three episodes — China, India, and Russia with each featuring its own Assassin, narrative arc, and visual aesthetic inspired by the respective culture and era. Each title had been released individually and this compilation was released simultaneously with the last of the trilogy, Russia.
In China, players follow Shao Jun, trained by Ezio Auditore, as she returns to her homeland to confront the Templars. India introduces Arbaaz Mir, navigating political intrigue and conflict during the Sikh Empire. Russia centres on Nikolai Orelov, entangled in revolutionary turmoil while protecting his family.
Gameplay focuses on careful movement, timing, and use of tools such as hidden blades, smoke bombs, and grappling hooks. Levels are designed with layered paths, encouraging exploration and multiple approaches to objectives. The art direction shifts with each episode, blending historical motifs with stylised animation to distinguish the settings.
The trilogy was a creative experiment, with visual flair and a compact design, understandably much less expansive than the mainline series. Although many might say the mainline series had become unnecessarily too expansive and open. Chronicles makes a distinctive side branch of the franchise, offering a condensed yet atmospheric take on the Assassin–Templar conflict.
