Medarot 2: Kabuto Version

メダロット2 カブトバージョン

A robot-battling RPG where Ikki and Metabee collect parts, customise Medarots, and fight strategic Robottle battles against rivals and the revived Roborobo Gang. The Kabuto version emphasises shooting-type parts.

Description

Medarot 2: Kabuto Version is one half of the two-version Medarot 2 release. It is the second main Medarot game and the first to star Ikki Tenryou. The Kabuto version starts the player with Metabee, while the companion Kuwagata version starts with Rokusho, and the two versions include exclusive Medarots and Medals.

The story follows Ikki as he receives his first Medarot and becomes involved in incidents caused by the returning Roborobo Gang. It also introduces much of the cast and tone later associated with classic Medabots, with the anime mainly drawing from Medarot 2. Gameplay revolves around collecting robot parts and assembling Medarots from a Medal, frame, head part, right arm, left arm, and leg parts. Battles, called Robottles, are strategic team fights of up to three Medarots per side, where the player’s part choices, Medal growth, attack types, and team setup determine how well each robot performs.

Compared with the first game, Medarot 2 is a much larger sequel. It adds Game Boy Color support, more Medarots, face portraits for characters, new attacks, changed Medal mechanics, an auto-battle option, and the debut of Medaforce, a special-move system that became a major part of later entries.

Medarot 2 was followed by Medarot 3 and then Medarot 4, forming the “Ikki trilogy” of mainline games starring Ikki Tenryou. An enhanced remake called Medarot 2 Core was released on the Game Boy Advance, which is the version that was released overseas as Medabots.
