Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 02: Robot Kit

ニンテンドーラボ Toy-Con 02: ロボット キット

A creative software package built around a wearable cardboard suit that integrates the Switch Joy-Cons in large‑scale robot play.

Description

Nintendo Labo Toy‑Con 02: Robot Kit software presents a single main activity in which players control a giant robot on screen by wearing a cardboard backpack, visor, and hand and foot straps. The Joy‑Con sensors read the movement of pulleys and strings inside the backpack, translating physical motion into digital actions such as walking, punching, stomping, and flying. The game features a city environment where the robot smashes buildings, fights enemy machines, and collects energy to extend play. A scoring system tracks destruction and efficiency, encouraging repeated sessions to improve performance.

The programme also includes additional modes such as a challenge mode with timed objectives, a garage mode for customising the robot’s appearance, and a practice mode for refining movement. Discovery modules explain how the Joy‑Con sensors detect motion through the pulley system, reinforcing the link between cardboard engineering and software response. It connects closely to the other Labo releases, sharing the “Make, Play, Discover” framework, but distinguishes itself by focusing on a single, large‑scale interactive theme rather than multiple smaller activities.

Reception at release praised the novelty of the wearable suit and the sense of scale in robot play, while it was noted the application had limited depth and repetition compared with the other Labo kits. The Robot Kit had a striking physical design and was the most pronounced in demonstrating how cardboard construction could extend into full‑body interaction. It remains the clearest example of the line’s ambition to merge craft, movement, and software into a unified experience.
