Link’s Crossbow Training

リンクのボウガントレーニング

A shooting gallery spin‑off that reuses assets from a mainline fantasy adventure to showcase a new peripheral through short, score‑driven stages. Bundled with the Wii Zapper, not sold individually.

Description

Link’s Crossbow Training was released as a companion to the Wii Zapper, positioning itself as both a demonstration of the accessory and a light diversion for fans of The Legend of Zelda. The game takes place in the world of Twilight Princess, with Link wielding a crossbow instead of his traditional bow and sword. Players progress through nine levels, each divided into three stages, covering modes such as fixed target practice, defensive scenarios against waves of enemies, and ranger stages where Link can move freely. Scoring is central to the design, with multipliers rewarding accuracy and medals awarded based on performance. A multiplayer mode allows up to four players to take turns with the Zapper, competing for the highest score.

The title is notable for its reuse of environments and enemies from Twilight Princess, effectively re‑framing familiar assets into a shooting gallery format. This approach recalls how earlier spin‑offs like Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland or Freshly‑Picked Tingle’s Balloon Trip of Love experimented with Zelda characters in different genres, though Crossbow Training is more of a mechanical showcase than a narrative expansion. Its structure also echoes arcade light‑gun games such as Time Crisis or Point Blank, though adapted for the Wii Remote’s pointer functionality.

The game can be fun, but it is not much more than an inexpensive pack‑in rather, definitely no full‑fledged Zelda adventure. Although polished its brevity and limited depth are emblematic of Nintendo’s experimentation with peripherals during the Wii era.
