32X
Sega’s 32X is a fifth generation hardware add-on for the Mega Drive, released in 1994. It expanded the 16-bit system’s capabilities with dual 32-bit processors, enabling improved graphics, richer colour palettes, and basic 3D rendering. The 32X supported a limited library of exclusive cartridges, as well as enhanced compatibility with certain Mega-CD titles when used together. Positioned as a low-cost entry into 32-bit gaming, the 32X struggled commercially due to limited support and the impending release of the Sega Saturn.
