An adventure action game adapting Rumiko Takahashi’s Inuyasha manga/anime with a mix of visual‑novel‑style storytelling and side‑scrolling combat.
Description
Inuyasha: Fūun Emaki is set after the main characters have already formed their core group. The story beginning with Inuyasha, Kagome, Miroku, Sango, and Shippo encountering Kōga and his wolf tribe. It follows a series of episodes tied to collecting shards of the Shikon Jewel. The game’s structure alternates between largely non‑interactive narrative sequences where you “investigate” locations, talk to NPCs, and make occasional branching choices, and short action segments where you directly control Inuyasha in side‑view battles. Combat is simple but strategic: Inuyasha can attack, jump, and use special moves, while allies like Kagome or Kirara can be summoned for unique attacks with varying accuracy, range, and power. Experience points earned in battle allow you to level up parameters to make future fights easier.
A distinctive feature is its multiple Perspective system: at certain points, you can choose to view events from different characters’ viewpoints. While the core events remain the same, dialogue nuances and pacing change depending on whose perspective you select, adding replay value for fans who want to see every interaction. Exploration is mostly linear, with optional training spots on the map for extra battles if you want to grind.
Compared to other Inuyasha games of the era, such as the more action‑oriented Inuyasha: Sengoku Otogi Kassen on PlayStation, Fūun Emaki leans heavily into story delivery, closer in feel to a visual novel with light action breaks. Its focus on character interactions and multiple viewpoints catered directly to fans of the source material, rather than players seeking deep or complex combat systems.
A Inuyasha fan would appreciating the capturing of the anime’s look, music, and personalities, however besides the perspective‑switching novelty its slow paced, repetitive in battles, and limited in interactivity. Retrospectively it’s one for collectors of WonderSwan titles and Inuyasha items.
