A well lauded update of the original Metal Gear Solid with some quality of life improvements from MGS2.
Description
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation, 1998). It blends the story of the original with the gameplay mechanics of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Developed by Silicon Knights under the supervision of Konami and Nintendo, and directed by Denis Dyack with Hideo Kojima and Shigeru Miyamoto as producers, the game brought significant graphical and mechanical upgrades. It introduced first-person aiming, improved enemy AI, and fully re-recorded voice acting.
Some longtime fans did not like the over-the-top action cutscenes, directed by Ryuhei Kitamura. Although it did deviate from the original’s grounded tone, it really reflects well retrospectively on how the series balances both the serious and whimsical. Despite this polarising aspect, the game remains a great point to go back and play the original, offering a unique hybrid of old with quality of life upgrades. The next best alternative at the time was to play the original on Dreamcast with the Bleemcast emulator.
