Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

ディシディア ファイナルファンタジー NT

A team‑based arena fighter that reworks the Dissidia formula into three‑on‑three battles with class roles, summons, and cooperative mechanics. While visually striking and ambitious, it received a mixed reception due to its complexity and lack of robust solo content.

Description

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is a port of the arcade version and introduces online multiplayer, narrative content, and expanded character options. The “NT” stands for “New Tale,” reflecting both its continuation of the PSP titles Dissidia Final Fantasy (2008) and Dissidia 012 (2011), and its shift to a new team‑based structure. The game features 3v3 battles with characters drawn from across the Final Fantasy franchise, each assigned to one of four roles: Vanguard, Assassin, Marksman, or Specialist.

The story mode continues after the thirteenth cycle of conflict depicted in the PSP games. Instead of Cosmos and Chaos, the warriors are summoned by their successors, Materia and Spiritus. Unlike previous cycles, the characters retain their memories of past battles, and the narrative explores how they confront a new existential threat devouring the realm. The story is presented through a mixture of cutscenes and unlockable nodes on a branching map, requiring players to earn “Memoria” through battles to progress.

The game features combat built around a dual damage system. You accumulate Bravery through attacks, then convert it into HP damage to defeat opponents. Summons such as Ifrit, Shiva, and Bahamut can be activated mid-match, adding strategic depth. While visually polished and rich in franchise references, Dissidia NT had a steep learning curve and limited offline content which resulted in poor uptake. The post-launch updates added new characters and balance adjustments, but it struggled to build a community compared to traditional fighting games.
