📺 PAL

The PAL region in gaming refers to territories, most of Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Oceania, that historically adopted the Phase Alternating Line (PAL) television standard. PAL versions of games are specifically modified to output at 50 Hz (typically 576i resolution) with adjusted video/audio signals, and they’re often region-locked, meaning they won’t run natively on NTSC (60 Hz) systems without hardware or software workarounds. In modern HD systems, this distinction is mostly no longer relevant or applicable.
