Everyparty

エブリパーティ

A board‑game style party title that aimed to showcase lighthearted multiplayer fun on a new console, distinguished by its roulette‑based movement system and whimsical character art.

Description

Everyparty was a Japanese launch title for the Xbox 360, developed by Game Republic with character designs by Momoko Sakura, best known for Chibi Maruko‑chan. Up to four players compete to reach the goal on branching boards, with routes offering different risks and rewards. Instead of dice, movement is determined by roulette wheels, of which there are thirty‑seven varieties. Players collect and store wheels during play, choosing which to spin each turn, adding a layer of strategy to progression. Along the way, medals function as currency to bypass obstacles or purchase coveted wheels, while more than thirty mini‑games punctuate the journey, ranging from reflex challenges to simple puzzles.

The game leaned heavily on customisation, allowing players to dress their avatars with hundreds of accessories unlocked through repeated play. Online support via Xbox Live extended the experience, letting players compete with unique character appearances. Its structure and mini‑game focus drew immediate comparisons to Nintendo’s Mario Party series, though the roulette mechanic and Sakura’s distinctive art style gave it a different flavour. As one of the few Japanese‑developed titles at the 360’s launch, it also reflected Microsoft’s attempt to appeal to the domestic market with culturally familiar aesthetics.

It was poorly received because of its long load times, dated graphics, and simplistic mini‑games, which left it overshadowed by more polished party titles. While its art style and customisation options were good, it failed to capture sustained interest and is today a forgotten chapter of the Xbox 360’s Japanese launch lineup.
