F-16 Fighter

F‐16 ファイティングファルコン

A first-person, arcade-style flight simulator originally developed for the MSX computer in 1984 by Nexa (for ASCII) and later adapted for Sega’s 8-bit console.

Description

F-16 Fighter aimed to capture the feel of piloting the real F-16 jet, though with the technical limitations of the era. Gameplay puts you in the cockpit view, engaging in aerial dogfights and intercept missions. One quirky hallmark of the Master System version is its unusual control scheme: to play it as intended, you actually needed two controllers for a single player, one for flight controls and the other for weapons and radar functions.

While simple by modern standards, this was one of the earliest attempts to bring a jet combat simulation to home consoles, blending arcade action with light simulation elements. This is the cartridge version version, a card version was also sold. Same UPC appears to be the same as Tennis Ace (!).
